I'm currently looking for a new laptop, and would be using it mainly for some gaming (Just Cause 2 and the Gears of War series) and video editing (for fun). I have a few questions regarding this processor.
    1. How would this processor perform for my needs? Would it be good enough?
    2. How does it compare with the Intel i3?
    3. Would it better for me to get a laptop with the Athlon and a Radeon HD5650 or a Core i3 laptop with an integrated Intel HD?

    1. It'll suffice for your needs.
    2. About roughly the same. Some uses will favor the i3 while others will favor the P320.
    3. Most definitely the 1st option. In terms of gaming, graphics is always the key factor, not CPU performance.

I wouldn't buy a laptop with an AMD processor. Most run hotter and and use more power. So you get less battery life. Intel processor are more advanced and use less power, thus run cooler.

I would consider AMD if the price point was good. As Melody said for gaming the GPU is king and in your question. 5850 so kills any IGP as I would not even have to ask what CPU. I mean a P4 w/5850 would crush an i7 in gaming if that was even a possibility.

A Pentium 4 with a ATI Mobility HD 5850 would just slow the GPU down. :)

Just grab the AMD Athlon II and the ATI Mobility HD 5650 as its a much better performer than Intel HD IGP.

Get the Athlon with Radeon 5650.
It will far outperform the i3 with integrated Intel gpu in games.

Don't fear new AMD Danube platform it's not hotter than Intel nowadays, and it got alot better graphics (with hardware encoding and decoding of video material), also power usage improved greatly.

After reading the AMD page, I see that the P320 has a TDP of 25 Watts. It seems like a decent low-ish end processor.

Get this.. gaming performance wise its perfect.. CPU wise , i'm iffish but still overall its better.. of course it would be better if u can get a core i3/i5 and 5650.. there are plenty of options for that too.

yeah I wish I can at least get a Core i3 with a HD5650, but unfortunately I live in Japan and haven't been able to find such combination. All the i3 laptops here only comes with the Intel HD, and laptops with i5 and a decent discrete graphics card cost at least 90,000yen ($1000).

I have one more question about the Athlon II P320. Would this processor perform well with Adobe After Effects (CS5) and Cakewalk Sonar (8.5)?

After Effects should be fine seeing as my P8600 can run it decently last time I checked (was CS4 though, but I doubt CS5 will be that much worse), idk about Sonar though; never used that sorry :(

The Athlon II P320 is a budget processor. In CPU-limited games you may have some performance issues. For example, Just Cause II needs a faster CPU to run comfortably. The recommended system requirements are as follows:
    The 2.1GHz P320 is well below that . . .

Also, Adobe After Effects will greatly benefit from a faster processor; rendering is very CPU intensive.

There's no way you can spring for a faster CPU? Maybe wait a month and save a bit more money?

I can save up for a laptop with a Core i5 and a Radeon HD5650, but it will cost me at least 40,000yen (approx. $450) more. And I just can't justify my self to do that.

Should I get a laptop with a Core i3 and a Radeon HD 5145 instead for about the same price?

If you're still going to be gaming, you will definitely appreciate the inclusion of the HD5650.

In that case go with the P320 + HD 5650. The performance difference between the P320 and the Core i5 is not worth $450 by a long shot.

The P320 will work fine for you - what I am saying is that you could benefit from a faster CPU.
