Athlon X2 is a desktop processor. Expect lots of cooling fans and a battery life of 1.5 hours with a 12 cell. It is pretty fast though.

Yes the Turion X2 is a good choice if the rest of the laptop is good for your needs. Or perhaps I should phrase that, you will not go terribly wrong. The Core Duo is better (faster) but a little more pricey and if the rest of the laptop suits your needs and there is not a similairly priced Core Duo on the market there is no reason not to go for the Turion. If you want a 64bit dual core notebook right now it is, in fact, your only option as the Core 2 Duo is not yet available.

In that case listen to MGS2392 and heed his warning.

The Athlon X2 is a desktop CPU. It would be like asking "how is the freightliner engine for a sports car?" A freightliner is a Semi-truck. You can't use a freightliner engine in a sports car.

So, what you must be talking about is the Turion X2, unless you meant to say for desktop. Turion and Athlon are made by the same company, maybe that is the reason you got them confused?

Once you make it clear up what you are talking about I will assist you further.

I have not heard of a Athlon X2 for notebooks. Someone show me one for sale at say newegg or a computer sold, then I will beleive.

    Sager NP9750, which is a Clevo D900K I believe.

Remember, they used to put Prescott-core P4's into notebooks. An Athlon 64 X2 is easy compared to that. Just don't expect it in a thin-and-light.

The Turion X2 would be a saner choice at this point but if you're willing to lug around several extra pounds for top-of-the-line performance I bet those D900K's are nice machines.

Wow those Athlon X2's are pretty pricey. No wonder he wants to know how well they perform. Their battery life must be an hour at best.

    And you would be correct.

The Clevo D900K is the only notebook that uses the AMD Athlon X2 CPU. It runs cool, and the one I tested with an FX-60 had no heat problems whatsoever:
