I didn't know where to post this but I find it a worthwhile reading for the current state of the CPU market:

Yes, I read this article. But by the end of the year, Intel with Merom may be able to comeback.

Basically Intel has very strong Marketing, more partners, virtually unlimited research dollars. And if need they can slash the prices of their chips much more than AMD( with their deep pockets).

We have to wait and see. I hope AMD market share raises and keeps the comptetion tight with Intel, so that consumer will benifit in the end. To be frank last 4 years has been very stagnant in desktop CPU atleast.( other than just dual-core sutff).

You are absolutely right but it is good to see how a smaller competitor can put some heat on the bigger one. These results, though not as significant for Intel as for AMD, brought down Intel's share price and I'm sure a lot of managers there lost their bonuses.
More competition is always better for the end consumer so a big "Bravo" for AMD

We'll have to see what happens when Vista is released and where the market goes with 64bit.

While I'd love to see 64Bit come to force quickly I think it's going to be quite a time before 64Bit becomes the predominent factor in the market place, right now 32Bit is still definately king in most markets.

Read something about some quarter in this year that AMD will overtake Intel. This is very believeable since they offer cheaper cpus, plus I've noticed a lot of gamers choosing AMD over Intel because of the platforms and cost.

    Cheers,

Presuming you are referring to shipments, AMD just doesn't have the FAB capacity to do so--at the moment anyway.

If by "overtake" you refer to processor capabilities, they have already done so in the desktop and server markets.
