    What is the better processor?

    AMD Dual Core Processor E-350 (1.6GHz, 1MB L2 Cache)

    VS.

    INTEL Pentium Processor U5400 (1.2 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache)

Check this out. Hit ctrl+F and type in each of the two processors to see which ranks higher:

    Mobile Processors - Benchmarklist - Notebookcheck.net Tech

I know it says mobile processors but there are desktop processors in there as well. Looking at the specs you posted though, AMD Dual Core would probably beat the Pentium.

    Hope this helps. Cheers. :)

The Intel Pentium U5400 is based on a low power Arrendale i3 with hyperthreading disabled.
(Does not feature turbo boost either because thats i5 and upwards.)

What are your usage pattern if you consider to buy either one of them?

I would recommend the AMD Zacate E-350 because while its CPU power might not be the very best money can buy, its cheap and includes a integrated AMD graphics core that easily beats the crippled Intel IGP inside the Pentium U5400.

The Pentium kills the E-350 in cpu performance. Graphics, not sure.

I will be using it mainly for word processing, powerpoint, yahoo messenger, skype, online video streaming, and a little amateur photo and video editing. I plan to get either the HP DM1Z (AMD) for $500 or the HP DM31 (Intel) for $600. What do you think?

U5400 beats the E-350 by up to around 20-25%. Still, both are slow enough that anything intensive is going to be incredibly slow anyway and the dm1z offers better graphics performance and better battery life, at a lower price.

What does it mean to have better performance in general but not in graphics? What does this look like when using the computer?
