I have been searching and have not found any AMD Llano laptop with 17" inch screen with resolution 1920x1080 or 1920x1200. The best I have found is HP with screen 1600x900 blank screen.

I would like to have a AMD A8-3550MX, 8GB ram, SSD, DVD burner, 17" 1920x1080/1920x1200 good quality antiglare screen and standard at least 3 USB ports (Minimum 2xUSB3), eSATA, HDMI/Displayport, BT for phone sync, total silent at normal surfing and viewing Youtube clips 720p.

    Does this machine exist?

What you're describing is pretty high-end sounding... and most all of the higher end systems are Intel. You'll be hard pressed to find the system you're talking about.

I thought all 17" HP's were upgradable to the 1080p screen?

Did you try customizing them for screen options? Specifically the pavilion.

The dv7 with AMD A8 CPU is not configurable, as it is not available on HP's website (only through retailers). It comes with a 1600x900 screen.

The reality is, for a high-end machine (which are usually the only machines with 1080p screens), manufacturers and customers alike still overwhelmingly turn to Intel's offerings + a discrete GPU if video performance is needed, especially in larger laptops that have accepted a low battery life. AMD just can't compete against Intel's top end, although some of its low-mid-end offerings are compelling.

The only other 17" A8 laptop I could find is a Gateway, but it is not configurable and comes with 1366x768 (!) or 1600x900 panels.

Some retailers here in Norway carry a Dv7 with specs similar to that, but its a A8-3510MX.
So yeah it does exist some places.

Yeah I was looking around the Internet for models and I am reaching the same conclusion as you: I don't think such models exist in the US for the OP.

Which is surprising considering I see lots of 17" notebooks with just i3 or i5 and Intel HD graphics.

This is very weird. Their is one HP laptop with 15,6" screen, res 1920x1080, with the CPU I looked for. HP DV6z QE 1080p that HTWingNut is working with.

For me that resolution on that screen gives a to high DPI at 133. I now use 1280x800 on 13,3" screen that gives 113 DPI. 1600x900 at 15,6" gives 118, 1920x1080 at 15,6" gives 133 and 1920x1080 at 17,3" gives 120. I can maybe accept 1920x1080 at 15,6" screen.

Is the screen a good quality with good viewing angles? I have been reading a little in the forum about this machine and people are talking about overclocking. Is it easy to under volt it? I have a desktop machine that I have under volted and it now pulls almost 40W less at max CPU load.

I will not run Windows on the machine so do not want it included and how to optimize, under volt and other things without Windows?

That other specifications do the machine have? USB2 ports, USB3 ports, other ports and other specifications?

If you aren't running Windows it will probably be problematic to overclock/undervolt as it's all done using windows apps. If you can find a way to do it, the chips themselves are phenomenal for overclocking and undervolt.

The 1080p screen is one of the better ones I've ever used. Definitely worth the $150 upgrade. Viewing angles are great, brightness is good, I've used it outdoors a bit no problem, battery life is good and option for 9-cell is nice as well.

It has 2xUSB 2.0, 2xUSB 3.0, Blu-ray is frequently a free standard upgrade, 2xSATA III ports (internal for HDD and optical drive), HDMI, gigabit ethernet, VGA, 2xheadphone, 1xmic,

See my quick comparison with Sager NP8130 here:

HP DV6z is tempting but the screen is to small for that resolution for me. 1280x800 on a 13,3" is great for me and 1920x1080 on 15,6" do not fit me.

If the machine was a 17,3" and guaranteed total silent at video clips viewing like Youtube I would get it, if it where available in my country. I cant find dv6z on HPs site in my country.

    Thanks for the help.
