Hi,
Quick question. I want to buy a laptop, battery life is not important to me at all. I want to play games and get the best performance possible. Given this information would it be better to go for an Mobile Athlon 64 4000+ or a Turion clocked at 1.86 / 2ghz. It seems the Turion just saves battery life so the mobile Athlon with a higher clock speed would yield greater performance? Laptops with either of the chips stated are roughly the same price (UK - £800/£850). For games it can be assumed it will come with at least an ATI x700 or greater (128 meg dedicated) so this is a question purely on CPU performance. I cannot seem to find any benchmarks that compare only performance of the two processors.
Thanks in advance.

Well.... The athlon mobile 64 will generate alot of heat it uses 62 watts while a turion uses 25... Thats a very big difference, This will mean to disapate the extra heat the laptop will have to be bigger making it heavier and thicker and noisier. I would have thought you would get a 2.2ghz turion for that price, AMD lists the turion MT-40 at $268 and the Mobile 64 +4000 is $307. If it was between a 2.2ghz MT and a 2.6ghz mobile 64 I would say hands down the Turion will give better performance.
AMD Mobile 64 or Turion 64
