Given two notebooks with otherwise identical specifications, which processor (Turion TL-56 or the Core 2 Duo T5500) would be faster? Which would have a longer battery life?
-
C2D, what is the GPU because unless dedicated not the same, oh and FSB is not the same, what is the RAM speed? But yea the C2D does win in speed and battery, and heat! What is cost?

Thanks for the reply. The GPU is going to be integrated in both cases and is of little concern to me - this notebook will be solely for university work. Anything requiring power will be done on my desktop (E6750, X1950 pro). The RAM speed will probably be 533MHz in both cases and the cost will be ~£400. Do you have any sources that show that the T5500 is faster and more power efficient because I can't seem to find any.
Can anybody provide anymore feedback on the TL-56 vs T5500 question? -
I'll be powerpack's source. Why don't people believe us?

The two processors are relatively equal in speed. In general Core 2 Duo's have better battery life and run cooler than Turion x2's.

Check out Toms Hardware Mobile CPU charts. Intel's C2D beats AMD's X2 by a mile.

That was the first thing I did but the T5500 isn't there. In any case, three for the T5500 and one draw means I'll probably be going for a T5500 based notebook. Thanks for the feedback.

Just a heads up for someone who thinks other than the CPU they are the same. The core 2 Duo will be faster as a CPU but in overall performance the AMD has like a 1600Mhz FSB vs Intel's 533MEhz or 667Mhz FSB. Which means the 533Mhz CL4 AMD is just as fast as 667Mhz CL5 Intel. If you realy want a documented sheet PM me and I will try and put it together for you. It may take a day or so as I am doing other things also.

Toms hardware is bias. Check out the dual core benchmarks thread in NBR.

Go for the T5500 is its the same price, if there is more than a $75 or so difference, go for the TL-56

The performance between the two is similar. The Core 2 Duo may get slighlty better battry life, however. I wouldn't go with a T5500 if the price difference from the TL-56 is alot. Instead of spening that money on the T5500, you could spend it on other components such as a faster hard disk, or more RAM. Both of those would have a much more profound impact on general performance.
