I try to understand these new CPUs/platforms that best suit for my work. AFAIW, Core i3, together with Sandy Bridge, is a better platform for general productivity and occasional CPU-intensive tasks, right? Only thing Zacate (and Fusion, for that matter) is superior than intel is the built in graphic processor which is for gaming or any 3D/graphic-intensive tasks.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm asking this since more Fusion based machine are available. However, when properly configured, they are in the same price range (AMD and Intel).

That is correct. If you only need the basics and occasional CPU intensive tasks, Intel is the way to go. Zacate's CPU is inferior to everything except Atom and ancient CULVs -- it's worse than even AMD's own Neos from the previous generation. However, keep in mind that Sandy Bridge i3s will not be available for at least another couple of weeks, possibly longer (Intel had a chipset problem and it takes time to fix).

Thanks, I'm aware of Sandy Bridge SATA issue and I don't plan to buy it that soon. Just start looking.
My main machine is an R61 with T7100 2GB Ram.... 3 years old is a long time. It is still going strong but I'm looking for lighter alternative. Wonder how is it compare to what I have now. -
When will Intel's Sandy Bridge CULVs be out?

More like $600+

IMHO, the low voltage version is lacking performance, judging from my experience with SU9400. Fine for office use, some multimedia and batt life, but nothing else.
AMD Zacate and Intel Core i3 for general productivity...
