Since they are not going quad core mobile till 2010, they need to up the clockspeed if they want to sell it at good price. Intel will release T9900 at 3.06ghz at $531.

Did anyone see Shanghai today, Its a nice step forward for the server industry. The Opteron line has always been king in the server platform, and the new release should help keep it up.
It would be nice if they could get better mainstream chips.
But at the price AMD charges, their is no better alternative.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Deneb performs, especially since it's got a decent amount of cache that's comparable to Intel's Quad offerings, as well as DDR3 support. Even so, I'm betting that it'll still trail Nehalem by quite a bit.

Saw that - the ability to completely power off a core sounds like a good feature. Wouldn't be surprised if they slip that into their next batch of notebook chips as a nice power-saving measure.

But they certainly do need better mobile chips - they've been at 2.4 GHz for quite awhile after being at 2.3 GHz for even longer. A year ago it wasn't that far behind Intel. Now Intel's leaps and bounds ahead.

I made a table for notebooks and netbooks so people can more easily follow all the new processors:
