Hi, I was wondering what is the difference between the AMD Radeon HD 6630M and AMD Radeon HD 5650? Which one is more powerful for gaming? Can it handle Starcraft 2, or Left for dead type games or NFS?

    Thanks.

The 6630M is slightly faster than the HD5650 but marginally so. Both can play the list of games you mentioned though.

They are both pretty similar. Depending on the manufacturer, either one can be more powerful than the other. All else being equal, I would get the 6630M because it would be more powerful when overclocked.

That really depends on the stock clocks of the cores, which unfortunately vary. The HD6630 has 20% more shaders and has more clock speed headroom, so when overclocked the HD6630 would certainly be out ahead of the HD5650. But if you have no intention of overclocking, it really doesn't matter.

Well i am looking at a HP envy 14 at the moment. But still searching around for a decently slim light weight college/gaming laptop that is small but has all basic features like cd/dvd player and hdmi and stuff.

Thanks for your info guys. I will stick with 6630HD. I dont know if the HP Envy 14 video card which is AMD Radeon 6630 can be overclocked or not.

Indeed it can. Use Sapphire Trixx instead of RivaTuner. You may need to boot with "disable driver signature enforcement"... though I'm not 100% sure. :)

What is Sapphire Trixx and what is RivaTuner?

Sorry, it's an app you can use to overclock your card if you want to try that.

EDIT: I use it to overclock my 6630m.

Thats awesome. I will give it a try and test it out on my current hp dv5 laptop. I have bought one of the first generation HP dv5 entertainment PC before. It lasts a good time so lets see if this software has any effect.

    Thanks
