Ive been hearing so much about AMD's Turion 64 X2 and was wondering how everyone thinks its going to campare to the Core Duo? When it comes to benchmarks AMD always whoops Intel, will the trend continue?

Also, the Core Duo is available as a 1.66, 1.83, 2 and 2.16 GHz processor. The X2 will be available as 1.6, 1.8, 2 and 2,2 GHz. Does this mean the Core Duo 1.66 Ghz will be equal in performance to the X2 1.6 Ghz?

Finally, the X2 can have two different cache sizes, how greatly will this affect performace for the same speed of processor? Does having a cache twice as big double performace?

I wouldn't say AMD whoops Intel in notebooks - the Turion and the P-M were about on par with each other, with the P-M edging out the Turion slightly. Core Duo and the X2 should have similiar performance to each other, so yes, a 1.6 Turion X2 should be comparable to a 1.66 Core Duo.

Cache sizes won't double your performance, but it will boost it depending on the amount you have.

to clarify, AMD ALWAYS whoops intel on desktop benchmarks (until conroe)
but has never beaten intel on notebook benchmarks.
i expected a similar trend with the turion x2 (as merom should waste it)
i love amd for my desktop, but in notebooks, intel is the way to do (now if only they'd hurry up and have 64bit duo's)

I think it would perform similar to Core-Duo. But initially I thought it would not match Core-Duo in power consumption. But it looks they could potentially match or beat Core-Duo. But with DDR2 800 support it may have a edge in some apps. I am still not sure about the Dual Channel thing( probably).

And about Turion vs P-M, they are on par( some better than other based on test). Even batter life hype for Intel has been because of screwed-up OEM design on Turion laptops( probably because cheaper). My V2000z gives similar battery life as my previous Dell D600, despite smaller battery. Anyways, that is altogether different thing.

As per Merom,we will see when it comes. Is it only 64Bit implementation or includes any improvements.
