Straight from the horse's mouth. Personally I hope that AMD sticks around; consumers need the competitive prices and innovation created by two rival companies.
-
If anything, they may become more like Apple. Take a smaller share of the processor market, while branching heavily into the GPU market.
-
I hope they go under. Oh I have to explain? ok then:
1) They bought ATi when they barely had any cash to do so in the first place.
2) They produced a lackluster product which they worked on far longer than Intel did on c2d.
3) They of course ran into cash flow problems and had to sell 8% (I think it was) of their company.
" assume you're referring to the 8% investment by Mubdala Development? This is a clear case of an investor that is expecting a certain return on its investment."
....................................................................Im not even going to explain lol. -
Directly from the article;
Is this really something that anyone would want? Trust me monopolies are not good for an industry. -
Until they stop doing stupid things like selling processors by a difference of 0.1ghz and actually get a decent marketing team they won't go anywhere.
-
Intel does that too. The problem with AMD is that their current Turions can't compare with similarly clocked and priced Core 2's.
-
When I bought my laptop I had to choose between tl-60 or t7250 for the same brand and series laptop. The only difference was graphics card - x2400 for Intel and hd2600 for AMD (the cost of Intel machine was a bit higher).
As I have learned Intel processor has a slight advantage and average user would not notice the difference. Therefore, I decided to stick with AMD because I might need a better graphics card to play some games. -
You based your decision on the video card, not the processor. Neither Intel nor AMD has control over those kind of factors.
-
But I got a better system because AMD processor is cheaper and therefore it is possible to get a better other components in the system for the same price. Why should I pay for a slightly better processor which I don't need? It is wiser to pay for components which are necessary for me.
-
That's not the problem for AMD though. Right now, similarly priced Core 2's are better than the Turions.
-
most people at my school don't think there are any processors out there other than Core 2 Duo. if that's not a good indication of great marketing scheme then i don't know what is.
-
I'm hoping that AMD will release a platform that will knock Intel off-balance soon... such as their Fusion platform that combines a CPU and GPU on one chip.
-
I hope this happens I kinda dislike Nvidia because of there tactics.
AMD's CEO talks about the chip maker's future.
