You could probably buy another one, but you might have to open up your notebook.

You can check some out here, but I would recommend an external to save you the hassle of replacing the drive and risk further damage to your computer.

I'd agree with the LG recommendation, mine is excellent.

You might be lucky. With some notebooks all you have to do is undo a few screws under the dvd drive and it'll slide out. If not an external might be a better bet.

The standard notebook ODD is 1/2" (12.5mm) thick and they are all the same shape and size. Look for "slim" in the description. There are also a few ultraslim (3/8" / 9.5mm) around.

One think to watch out for is the master / slave setting in the ODD. Check the existing configuration in your notebook. If the ODD has one IDE channel for itself, then the master/slave setting doesn't matter, but if the ODD shares the IDE channel with the HDD then you need one pre-set to slave. This can be done in the BIOS.

Usually, the ODD is fixed into a notebook by one or two screws and is easy to remove. You then need to transfer the fixing brackets and the bezel to the replacement.

My internal works fine but I use an external LG 5163. It defeats the laptop portability issue but performs way fast and at $60 at circuit city for the newer external light scribe 18X..you may want to just use your internal for the occasional burn.
