    Hey guys,

I am almost ready to purchase the ASI S96SP barebone notebook from NCIX. I have a problem though, I don't know if it comes with an optical drive, and I can't find one that is compatible with the s96sp if it doesn't come with the notebook.

If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

    Welcome to nbr,

Usually one has the option to select if they want an optical drive or not.
If their is no option, than I think it would be best to contact NCIX first.

Other great barebone resellers are Xotic PC, Killer Notebooks, Sager, and RJTECH.

    ok thanks...

I don't think looking at other notebooks is an option... I can only spend ~$1000

And ncix is nice because since I am not in BC I don't have to pay 8% tax!

    Thanks again.

Notebook optical drives use a limited number of form factors. The most common is the standard slimline 1/2" (12.5mm) thick unit, There are a few super-slim 3/8" (9.5mm) units and even fewer ultra-slim 7mm thick burners.

Since the S96SP is a 15.4" notebook it most likely uses one of the first. The only other variable is that burners, like HDDs, can have either IDE/PATA or SATA connectors. The latter is quite recent and there are only a few burners with this interface. NCIX has a selection of slim burners.
