    Hi,

I have a Asus F5GL T7250 Core2Duo laptop that has been good for 3 years of normal usage. I have noticed just yesterday that my CPU temps while browsing/surfing web pages are within the 55-60C range. Idling temperatures are 49-50C. The GPU maintains a constant 53C under no load.

Would you guys recommend taking out the old TIM and replace it with a new one? What about the GPU's thermal pad? Can I take that out and replace it with the TIM as well?

Depending on your ambient temp, 55-60C while browsing isn't half bad at all. If you haven't cleaned the inside of your laptop recently, you should do it, otherwise there is no need to change your thermal paste.

Right now, the temps here in my room is about 25C. I tried stressing my CPU with ORTHOS and it shutdown my laptop at 83C. I guess thermal protection of this notebook I have kicks in at a lower temp than other laptops. I regularly clean my fan and my heatpipe grill. Every 3 months.

It shuts down at 83 C? That's rather odd, normally it should do it only if the CPU hits 95C or 100 C, and Orthos doesn't even stress CPU to the full extent like intel burn test and prime95 do.

Does it shut down during your normal usage? like gaming or anything heavy? If it does, then you should consider repasting.

Yup it does...To me it sounds weird as well..My cousin's laptop which is a COMPAQ 511 will max out at 97C..His processor is a C2D T5870 2.0 GHz and while stressing with ORTHOS, it maxed out but it NEVER shutdown..

Under normal usage e.g. surfing, word processing or playing mp3s with media player it usually stays in a range of 55-60C. When I start gaming (Counter-strike), it reaches 74-78C. But it never shuts down.

It never hurts to do these as long as you know how to do it properly. 3 years is fairly long for an average TIM to dry out so I would go for it.
