Hi all, I’ve posted here before and received many positive answers that gave me the encouragement to upgrade an Asus laptop. Once thought very difficult to upgrade almost all major components in any laptop is now to me, almost on par with upgrading a desktop if you are willing to learn.

    ASUS G50VT-X5 BestBuy Edition, P7450 2.13 GHZ, 9800M GS, 4 GB DDR2 (Stock).

I trashed the original chip with a X9100 SLB48 SLGE7 3.06 GHZ. I chose this chip because the multipliers are unlocked allowing application Throttlestop to overclock to 3.5 GHZ give or take. There are many types of the X9100, the SLGE7 gives the least amount of heat. Original chip idle temp 35-45 C. This chip idles at 25-35 C with Antec Formula 5 Thermal Paste (little dab all needed).

Time to upgrade the video card, I know, it seems impossible. Even this website has a section about MXM cards not usually able to be upgraded. I’m aware; I just believe it can be done. I just wish for some more information from anyone out there that possibly has tinkered with laptop upgrades/modifications/experience, etc. Everything I learned thus far that has been done to this machine has been learned through experience and internet reading in an equal relationship.

Machine has the GeForce 9800M GS… Runs at 40-50 C with new Thermal Paste and Mods… I would like to install the GTX 260M. Some sites say it’s impossible due to the fact that it is reversed, where it would be facing the wrong way not aligning with the heat sinks, others say this is not the case and I have seen YouTube videos doing this operation and running it with different drivers

There are many forms of and varieties of this card. Main difference is between the Alienware and Asus card. The Asus Card, to me, looks as though it will fit. Refurbished runs low in price on ebay. Sold on websites too, Reference: Asus G50VT G60VX Nvidia GTX 260M 1GB MXM VGA Card P/N:60-NV3VG1000-D01

Question is: Will it fit? Don’t care about temperature, I think I have that covered. The cards almost look identical, same screw spots, components facing up, connector correct. Any and ALL information will be helpful. Anyone ever put this in their machine? Anyone can tell with some form of accuracy whether or not this will fit? If I had it in my hands, I would know of course, but I am going off pictures and forum posts. As stated, some say it has been done before. Again, Heat not an issue. Any and all information would be very helpful.

Many ask me why I do these upgrades, my answer is, why not, the fun of it really. I purchased an ASUS G53JW-3DE, 1 yr. warranty left, can’t wait to tear her open. Will post pictures of my work, I Just want to get this card in first because I found a good price on the card on Ebay. The AlienWare edition doesn’t have the correct pins. As to what model would fit, if you know or would guess, my obvious observation is the only logical one, ASUS. Any specific model? Are the cards different in anyway that someone sees that I cannot? IE: Different ASUS Model GTX 260M Cards?

Thanks again, thank you all in advance. Help me create a machine that is one of a kind, which I will take pictures of, benchmarks, etc., and post.
