I have a ASUS G60 that I have recently removed the heat sinks and applied some better thermal paste to try to lower my GPU temps a bit. Since making the change, my temps have actually gone up. I can't figure out why. The processor is running around 38C. I had the GTX 260M OC'd to C - 600 M - 1000 and S - 1600 before changing the thermal grease and it would run in the mid 80's while under load with battlefield bad company 2. Now if I run the game with the same clock speeds I am getting mid to high 80's with artifacts on the screen.
The thermal paste I am using is Zalman - ZM-STG1, could this be the issue? The thermal grease seems to be really thin compared to AS5. I've tried to remove everything multiple times, cleaned the heatsink and chips with alcohol and reapplied the thermal grease, let the notebook sit for 20 minutes to make sure the paste had time to set. I tried to make sure the heatsink and the chips are making good contact, which I believe they are but I'm not sure.
The CPU idles around 36C and the GPU idles around 63C.
Also, I am currently NOT using a laptop cooler, but I have the Zalman NC2000 on order.
Anyone have any tips?

my GPU idles at 60C as well.

I get similar temperatures (actually higher) with a G51.
Also, my card isn't stable at anything higher than 600/975/1525. I get artifacts in Furmark after about 12-13 minutes at memory = 990 MHz, so you could try taking your memory clock down a bit. -
I have toned the speeds down a hair and its removed the artifacts, the framerate in battlefield has dropped a hair but not to much, hopefully the cooler will allow me to put it back to the speed I had previously. I think my processor maybe holding me back a bit though. Its a P7450, would upgrading the processor help with framerates at all? Is there a recommended processor everyone like? Thanks

you can try by undervolting the processor to reduce CPU temps... since ur G60 GPU and CPU share the same heatsink....

You can also try this fix which will ensure your GPU idles at lower temps and in a way undervolts GPU... I had GPU temps drop under load with OC by 10C using this.

Hope this helps... and use the zaltman too... it will help a little along with both of these fixes...
