Hi all
I want to boost some more life in my almost 2 year old M6N. I have learned that the "Hitachi TravelStar 7K100" should be a very fast disc. The only thing that is keeping me from buying this disc is that the M6N FAQ says that it only supports max. 5400 rpm and max 80 GB.
Hitachi TravelStar 7K100 specs.
7200 rpm
60, 80 and 100 GB
ATA-100
10 ms
8 MB buffer

Question
Can I use 100GB HDD on M6 Series?
Answer
M6 series will support 80GB HDD at 5400rpm max.
--snip from FAQ end--
Can anyone tell me if this really is true, or just not updated?
Please respond if you have tried a 7200 rpm disc in your M6N.

Well, you can put up to a 7200RPM drive in there - that's the fastest 2.5" notebook drive avaliable today.
I don't see a problem putting an 80GB drive in there, sounds accurate. One issue I would be careful of is going over 80GB - two years ago, 100GB drives+ weren't avaliable, and I'm not sure if your notebook will recognize it.
The Hitachi 80GB 7200RPM drive would get my recomendation. Hitachi was the first HDD manufacturer to come out with the 7200RPM drives, and they have been doing it for a while. Proven and reliable. -

I've had no problem with putting bigger HDDs into notebooks for several years. The maximum size mentioned in the specification is usually the largest size available when the document was prepared.
The Asus specification for the W3A says it supports up to 80GB HDD. I am currently using a 120GB HDD.

Thanks! I'll give it a try with a 100GB, 7200 RPM Hitachi 7K100 :asus:
