Looks like ASUS finally is ready to ship this thing:

"Presented at CES 2007" . . .
Either way, ASUS said it would be ready for launch . . . what, 4 months or 16 months ago.
CES is held in January, so obviously this guy has no clue what he is writing about.
People just don't get it . . . the XG is a dud, plain and simple. -
I lol'd. People save your money. This thing is indeed bound to fail.
-
Lol...it might be nice as a usb hub
-
ExpressCard is a PCI Express X1 link, I don't think a more powerful graphics card would make much of a difference in the first place... But that might be a nice thing for say... An ultraportable laptop with an Intel 950.
-
well at least now you can play CS:S on macbook air
how's XG station compare to this one? http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4415 -
Well, I think it would be an interesting solution for someone that want to use a ultra portable when they are on the move or was given a work laptop with poor GPU but would like to enjoy some casual gaming while at home.
-
Interesting solution, but this thing has been rumored to some out "any time now" for like a year and a half. Not. Going. To. Happen.
Please don't cite an article saying it is going to be here practically tomorrow but cites an event that occurred 4 months ago as evidence. The XG is dead, plain and simple. -
Did I miss something. The akihabaranews article was dated 5/27 and the Asus press release was dated 5/26. I know they show this over a year and a half ago and it was rumored to launch soon since then but there was never an official launch announcement by ASUS.
-
Better check sources. CES is in January, so clearly something is wrong. That, and the XG doesn't actually exist.
-
CES 2007 was a year and a half ago. The press release article refers to the product's first public appearaances to back in CES 2007 but the article is brand new. -
Well . . . I have to be honest. I hope you're right, but I'm doubtful.

At least they added the station to the ASUS site:
News - Official ASUS Site
XG Station - Product specifications -
I get "holding maintenance" link error

It's a limited solution, but like the ViDock, it does have it's place even if it's a very small and expensive niche.
The way it looks based on their various launch strategies, ViDock for ATi and XGStation for nV (although both offer luke warm recommendation that they support both).
As the Vidock review at Tom's showed, the interface is a factor, where the HD3850 gained little versus the HD2600 with that PCIe 1X limitation.
I still think that the LASSO style solutions would be better with at least 4 PCIe lanes. -

This is certainly not a perfect solution given the expresscard bandwidth limitation. Anyone looking for a high-end gaming laptops should still look elsewhere but for those that are limited to low-end GPU or overall size for varies reason. This can certainly be an interesting option.
In my own case. This would be very interesting if it came out a month ago when I was deciding on a new laptop. I was looking at the ASUS M50, F8 and F9 series. I really want a F9 for the size but ended up getting a M50 due to the performance. If I had known that the XG will actually ship soon, I might have gone with the F9 instead. -
seems like it WAS released may26

This is interesting. If it's indeed true, than I wonder if they released it only because Fujitsu did also.
Same with the EEE, only after Asus released it with such great success, now other manufucturers are releasing them as well, where they wouldn't touch it before. -
sooo could i SLi this with my 8600m gt?
-
-
yepp, it is deffo better than X3100, proven by ViDock
-
Actually Greg, Look at this:

My 2 pennies:
1. The idea is great.
2. I don't like that you need an external monitor as well.
3. The lead from ExpressCard to XG will annoy when playing games. -
No mention of cost?
-
300(450$) euros according to this..

Wow. That's the only thing I can say, first the big hype, then the long period where everyone thought it was dead, and now it's back, and I still think it will be a failure. It just doesn't work, Fujistu-Siemens's product is more logical, and maybe Asus should re-consider it for "Asus" only notebooks. That way you ensure that it will work on those notebooks, but you'll make a lot of people furious, that don't own an Asus.
-
Seems its already on sale in (Australia) for $566=$500 US.This is the 2nd Australian site I've found it on.

Very nice. I hope this is the real deal and I hope we see real-world experience and benchmarks soon.
-
-
As does Fujitsu`s whatchamacallit.
-
-
I personally don't expect miracles of this, but still if its 5-6 time faster than x3100, I think it's a solution for us IGP user.
