I recently replaced a 80GB Seagate 7200rpm ATA drive with the newer Samsung HM160HC 5400rpm (recommended by K-Tron). I ran PC Mark05 HDD suite on these drives so people can get an idea of these drives. See attachments.
Hibernating (timed by hand):
closing, Seagate 16 sec.*, Samsung 11 sec*.
starting, Seagate 18 sec.*, Samsung 12 sec*. (7 sec. for Bios not included)
System: Asus A6G 1.6Ghz Pentium Dothan, 1GB, XP SP3.
All in all a nice upgrade, twice the size, cooler and faster. The Samsung is also cheaper than the Seagate here in the Netherlands.

Thanks for this info.
However, I hope you had exactly the same applications open in each case when doing the hibernation. I my experience, XP's hibernation time depends on how much RAM is being used so the more programs I have open then the longer hibernating takes.

Awesome Phil Flow,
I told you the Samsung Drive is really good.
Thanks for providing the PCMark05 full drive information. I only had a trial version, so I couldnt gain access to all of the tests.
Its a really good drive, I am glad you are also enjoying it.

Yeah really nice drive. Thanks for recommending it.
I measured a couple of hibernates again, but it seems like I should have ran more hibernates. Because every time I test it, a different number comes out. So the accuracy of the hibernate test should be taken with a grain of salt. -
Nice test results, thanks!
