Hy guys, I´m a newbie in this forum so I´d like to firstly thank you all for any help!

My problem is that I can´t get technical information about the maximum MHz speed that the SONY VAIO PCG-K15 can take. I was searching for this information for weeks and I only found info about the memory that came installed on it, by default.

    Its a 2x INFINEON 256MB, 266 (PC2100S), CL2, 2033-0-A1.

I have some doubts if this 266 MHz (PC2100) is in fact the maximum that the notebook can take, because, the front-side bus of the pcg-k15 is 533Mhz.

So, do anyone here knows anything about this?

Oh, of course, I´m about to upgrade the memories of my notebook, that´s why I´m asking you guys!

    Thanks a lot you all!

Hey QWESTER, thanks a lot for your help. But unfornately, this program (CPU-Z) only reinforced what I´ve already know - What kind of RAM my sony has built-in.

I´m actually searching for people who also upgraded their sony vaio pcg k15 RAM memories, because, I would like to know what is the higher frequency that the notebook can get, like, PC2300 is the standart, but, can it take PC2700? Or even PC3200??

But I´m glad for your answer!

I did a check up on your system. You have an ati 345 chipset. I checked Ati's site and foud no information about the maximum supported RAM speed.

But usually Ram modules are backwards compatible and can run at slower speeds. So you might want to get a 333MHz RAM module that can run at 266MHz, so you will be safe. BTW I highly doubt that your laptop supports 400Mhz RAM.

If I come accross something else I'll post it here

    good luck with the upgrade

Hey qwester, thanks for your reply!! You had a great idea in focus on the chipset, I thank you a lot!!

I may be buying DDR400 because it´s cheaper than 333MHZ ones (CORSAIR). But thanks a lot for your help, it was helpful a lot!!

According to several online memory configurators (ex: crucial) your laptop should handle 266 or 333 MHz. BUT only 2 x 512MB, for a maximum of 1GB. So 1GB one piece, won't work according to these configurators.

The 400MHz modules that I have can only downclock to 333MHz (not 266MHz) this is usually different from one manufacturer to another. Mine are Kingmax.

I hope all goes well with your upgrade.

Hey Qwester, thanks a lot again! Well, I didn´t know that some DDR memorias has a downclock limit, I might as well investigate that before buying it! And by the ay, you´re right, my notebook only allows 1GB of RAM memory. My ideia is to buy just as you said, 2 x 512MB.

Thanks a lot for your help and patience!

    I salute you!

Hi you all! So, I finally bought the 1Gb RAM for my Vaio PCG-K15 (2x512, 333MHz). I´ve installed it and now a funny thing is happening: When I start up the notebook, if I enter the BIOS SETUP and check for the RAM installed on it, and it says that only 512MB is on it. SO, I let the windows XP load and than use AIDA32 to check out the memory. On the left menu, I access motherboard and then memory, it says that Physical Memory is totally 512Mb. But, I can check out each memory set, in the SPD sub-menu of motherboard, and it shows the both 512 memory module correctly.

Just to test, I turn off the notebook, remove one of the two modules set, and start it over again. On the BIOS Setup, it shows 256 Mb, on the AIDA32 ->MotherBoard -> Memory it shows a total of 256Mb, but, on the AIDA32 ->MotherBoard -> SPD it shows one 512 memory module installed.

So, I upgrade the memory, I doubled it capacity but, It still behaving like when old RAM was installed.

    Did anyone went throught that??

Anyone ever come up with a solution? I just tried putting more memory in my sony pcg-k15 and it only shows 512 megs, when i have 2 512 modules installed. Thanks
