I use XPS M1530 with Vista Ultimate.
It still new, I've just purchased it on the 1st of May.

    Specifications:
    Intel T9300
    4GB RAM
    6-cell 85 WHr battery

Yesterday I use my battery. It has been fully charged 100%.
I use my laptop to play music.

    The power plan setting was:
Turn off screen after 5 minutes
    PC Sleep after 15 minutes.

    My questions are:
    1. When the PC going to enter SLEEP mode and when I WAKE it, the song I played experienced a little lag and it was exactly when I move the mouse to WAKE it up.
    2. It was also happen when the screen is OFF and I want to turn it on by moving the mouse.
    3. Is it normal?
    4. If it is a problem, what cause it and what is the solution?

    Thank you.

This is normal on wakeup. Thus is because the harddrive is loading all of the files and cache's of the previous session windows was running. Because the drive needs to load all of this, the drive will lag until all of teh files have been loaded.

    Ok I see..

    1. It is also normal when the system is GOING to get into sleep OR just turn OFF the LCD?

    2. How about if I use the AC source power? Does the song will also a little skipped? Because if I am not mistaken, when I was using a Pentium 4 desktop PC, as I remember, I just get it normal.
Is it different between desktop PC and notebook PC?

    3. btw, Flipfire, what HP notebook series is that on your picture?

    Thank you very much.

    1) Yeah mine does it too when i close my LCD and open it 15 mins later, the song skips for about half a second.

    2) I think its cause of Vista or the notebooks sleep states. I dont remember my XP desktop doing it either

    3) HP pavilion dv2500 special edition

    1. Ok. Thanks.
    2. Yeah, I guess that was caused by the Vista, I've read on other forums stating that a lot of users have various kinds of problem with Vista Sleep Mode. Yeah, you're right, my desktop was XP.
    3. What is the special edition features?

    Thanks.

i don't think it is Vista problem. I have XP and had the same problem when closing and opening the lid, same lag experience.

Must be the modern cpu's sleep states then. Older cpus didnt have deep sleep states, desktops dont have them either since they dont run on battery

Is that so? Because I read in some forums that many Vista users are complaining about this problem.

Then I guess it must be the Vista and the sleep state owned by notebook.

I don't know if desktop does not have a Sleep state.

By the way, if I use the AC Adapter without the battery plugged in ( so it is pure direct electric powered ), does the Sleep state still exist? If yes, will I also experience the same problem?

    Thank you.

Desktops have a sleep mode it's just not so quiet as in laptops, in my experience, don't know why.

I keep my notebook always on AC power and I'm using sleep mode all the time and working normally. And yes, you will most probably experience the problem.

"I keep my notebook always on AC power and I'm using sleep mode all the time and working normally."

    1. You said working normally means that if you wake up your notebook, the songs don't skip?

    2. Does this lag / skip problem will affect the hardware? like CPU or RAM or the harddrive? Will it broke the components?

    Thank you.
