I just got my brand new machine shipped from a mayor web shop here in Europe. They shipped it from another country with just a layer of brown parcel paper around the laptop box. When I read reviews about them it seems they're kind of known for their not so proper packaging.

One of the corners of the box was dented a bit. Would you find this packaging acceptable? Should I worry my machine in some got stressed during shipping? To see the box that was shipped in parcel paper and how the laptop is packaged within that, see (jump to 25 seconds):

    Thanks in advance...

If you suspect shipping abuse - DO NOT ACCEPT the shipment, period. After you've accepted/signed for it, it's too late.

Btw, at 25 seconds in that video, no dents shown on the box.

Thanks for you reply! That's not my video. Just wanted to show how the machine I bought is packaged. Well, the dent is perhaps ~1 cm in one of the corners of the box shown in the video. I carried home the package, so I guess I've accepted the shipment. What do you people think — is it acceptable to send that machine only in the original packaging shown in the video (with a layer of parcel paper wrapped around)?

A single 1cm dent in a cardboard box is effectively 'perfect' shipping, lol...

Where do you want to ship it? To a friend/yourself? Use something better (at this point it will be your fault if any damage occurs during transport).

If returning it or for warranty? Use the box it was sold in. But insure it, just in case. ;)

Sorry, I must be expressing myself badly. I bought a computer for my own use from a shop and I do not intend to ship it anywhere. I just wonder if the packaging I received it in could be seen as acceptable. Usually when I order expensive electronics they at least put the original box with some bubble wrap around it in another box for shipping.

Based on what you've described, would I consider the packaging acceptable? No. Would I consider a 1 cm dent in the box a big deal if the machine is otherwise unharmed and working properly? No.

Same. I would make sure to leave feedback to that retailer about this. Dell has the boxes within boxes within boxes approach and it works well. Their laptops are basically in a box with foam padding which is in a box with the power brick, etc. with even more padding and that is in another box for shipping that also has extra padding so as not to damage any of the boxes containing the laptop and accessories.

I would definitely not consider what I saw in the video appropriate packaging. The small box containing the laptop seems to have almost no protection and the larger box has some protection, but not to the level at which I would trust some shipping companies to handle the stuff.

While I would not be too bothered as long as the laptop was ok inside, I agree it should have been double boxed. I sell a bunch of my own laptops every year and usually only keep them a few months at a time. Almost always they are double boxed. I keep all boxes and ship them in those same boxes when I resell them.

So... they just wrapped the actual laptop retail box with paper, like you wrap a gift, and shipped that? The laptop looked pretty well packed inside the retail box so I'm sure it's undamaged, but I wouldn't buy anything from that site anymore, AND I would leave them a negative review if you can. Maybe contact their CS department and ask for a refund of your shipping charges.
