I have an Acer 3100 I use in the RV for traveling resources. I have replaced the CPU with a dual core, upgraded the menory to 4GB PC5300, running Windows 7, etc. My Question is whether the thing will accept PC6400 sticks? Acer support (such as it is) doesn't seem to know - the answer I got was that it comes with what it comes with, thank you very much. (I have access to the sticks @ cost, so the $$$ isn't an issue. Just seem to have to constantly mess with things!!!). :D

It should accept them with no problem, just be aware that they may be downclocked to run at PC5300 speeds if the chipset won't support PC6400 speeds.

i doubt it's gonna run the memory at 800MHz so just keep using the sticks u have... if u could tell us what chipset it has using CPUID CPU-Z , it would help... give some screenshots of the program...

Even if you can get the RAM modules for free (or exchange with your current RAM), then I think you are fooling yourself that you'll see a performance difference in how the computer runs. Sorry. (Unless all you want to do is try to increase a mere benchmark).

They'll physically fit, but like the posters above mention, it will probably down clock to the PC2-5300 speeds the MB supports.

I would suggest a HD upgrade before the move to PC2-6400 RAM and even trying the demo of PerfectDisk 10 to see a more substantial improvement in your computers performance over what you'll see with a higher clocked RAM modules can ( cannot) offer.

Thanks all - wasn't thinking through to the MB not supporting the speed - I have actually done an HD upgrade as well, hence the concept of upgrading the sticks to go along with the rest of the new stuff. Ought to just buy a new unit, but it get used on the road only & really I guess I'd have to say it's more of a "because I can" deal!!
