Laptop came with a 1.7GHz Celeron. I bought a T5750 for $50 and have been running it for about 6 months.

I was just wondering if I could upgrade to a higher CPU? I use the laptop for gaming and every little bit helps!

I believe I have to stay with a 667FSB CPU, but I could be wrong.

I'm reading that ANY Socket P CPU will work?

I'm looking for the highest CPU I can use. 4mb cache would be nice, faster speed would be nice too.

Yah but I want the fastest CPU it can handle regardless of increased performance really.

Since you've got a T5750 and an X3100, I'm assuming you have a 965 chipset. Assuming that's the case, you can use any Socket P processor with an FSB of 800MHz or less. 1066MHz FSB processors won't work. Extremes may also not work. Therefore, your best bet is probably a T9300 or T9500. Make sure you update your BIOS as well.

EDIT: Nevermind, it looks like you have a GL960, which is kind of a fail. The GL960 officially only supports Celerons and Pentium Dual Cores, but as you have seen, 667MHz FSB and 800MHz FSB Core 2 Duos have been shown to work so the T9300 or T9500 may work. If you want to be safe, I'd stick with 667MHz FSB processors, but the only faster chip is the T5850, which isn't a worthwhile upgrade...

I did an upgrade on a similar laptop for a friend. we used the T7300. I think this CPU is good value for money. we got it from ebay and we paid only £35 for it.

Hmm. Well I know the T5750 works fine, obviously as I'm using it now, but no idea if a 800FSB will.

So the fastest C2D 667 is the T5850?

Eh, already upgraded everything else. If I could get a newer laptop without hard drive, RAM, wireless, and CPU... I'd do it.

Yep. Just 133MHz over your T5750, and no other differences.

Any 800Mhz socket P CPU will work in this laptop including the T9*00 series.
There is a thread somewhere in the forum listing all the CPU that can be used with the Acer 4315.

Well everything I've read says the GL960 chipset (what the 4315 has) is limited to 667FSB CPU's. The fastest available is the T5850.

I bought and installed a T5850 and I'm using it now. Works great and seems to turn the fan on LESS than the original 1.73 Celeron did. (reason that one was in there as I sold my T5750 on ebay for $75 and bought the T5850 for $80 but sold my old one before the new came in!)
