    4) FAN

It seems that inorder to remove the CPU or the GPU, i would have have to remove the FAN first. How do i remove the FAN?

fan first.. 3 screws.. one plug..remove
CPU next... 4 screws.. remove heat pipe assembly
GPU 4 screws from cooler first..remove heat pipe assembly
remove 2 screws on MXM card to motherboard... lift up a little, then slide card out of socket (like the memory dimms)
You are on your way now!!!

i tried to upgrade the processor. now the system wouldn't boot up. The power button light keeps blinking.

    procedure:
    1) took the fan out.
    2) took the head sink out (cpu heat sink)
    3) Unlocked the socket (S1)
    4) placed in the new CPU and locked the socket.
    5) applied artic silver on the processor (just the black portion)
    6) carefully spread it using a scaple (you can say it a scaple)
    7) reattached everything.

now the system wouldn't boot up.

tried to place back the TL 58 but same result.

Humm, I didn't use an Electrostatic Wrist band, Does that mean that my CPU (both of them) are fried?

Electric wrist bands really do not do anything.
Unless you are standing on a rug barefeet, with one hand in a bowl of water and the other hand working on your computer, the wristband is going to do nothing for you.

I would check the connections, and make sure everything is seated properly.

It is very strange that it wont turn on even with the old processor.
Just try to look around and see if you accidentally unplugged something while in the process of upgrading.

    Good luck,

    K-TRON

The power will turn On (But Black Screen). The Fan would start, but after a little while stop again. And this would continue on. I can't even turn the system off.

That is an oh so familiar thing which has happened to me just two weeks ago.

Are you sure that upgraded processor was designed for your system?

Because your laptop has the symptoms of a dead motherboard.

Try removing the memory. If the system does not beep, then you know that the motherboard has fried. I have the same thing on my Voodoo ENVY M360 laptop.
Unfortunately the only solution is to buy a new motherboard or have it repaired by the manufacturer.

This is what happens to me:
I press the power button, the fan comes on full for about 4-5 seconds, then the system fan shuts off and the system shuts off, but the system light stays on. When I hold the power button down, it does not shut off. I have to unplug the battery and ac adaptor for it to shut off.
In the 5 seconds it turns on the system fails to post the bios and no noise comes from the speakers.

If this is happening to you, I would email Acer and find out if your under warranty, and if not, how much it is for a new motherboard.

after an upgrade like that I think the warranty would be void

Moreover, according to the manual it should support the TL 66.

    Section: Specification:
"Platform AMD Better By Design program, featuring:
    • AMD Turion™ 64 X2 dual-core mobile technology TL-66 / TL-64 /
    TL-60 / TL-58 / TL-56 / TL-52 (2x512 KB L2 cache, 2.3 GHz / 2.2 GHz /
    2.0 GHz / 1.9 GHz / 1.8 GHz / 1.6 GHz, supporting AMD"

My warrantly is till November this Year. If I replace back the Hard drive and Processor, who would acer know that an Upgrade was tried?

That is a good indication that your motherboard has unfortunately fried.

A short must have been made at some point and caused your board to break.

Did you unplug the battery and ac adaptor before taking it apart?

Try downgrading to whatever Acer gave you, and send it back to them.
They should replace the motherboard for free.

After you get a new motherboard, it is up to you if you want to try and upgrade the processor again.

    1) Already down graded the Laptop. Mailed Acer for RMA as well.
    2) Both the power plug and battery were unpluged before opening up the laptop.
(Its kind of hard for me to see how can the mobo be fired, its a fairly simple procedure, anyway lets see)
    3) One last try would be to remove all static charge on the system. Willing googling for the same problem, i came across a thread where the person had the same problem (but it was a desktop), he called ASUS TECH support. They (asus) told him to take out the mobo, put electric tape around it (ground it) and they turn it on, and it worked.

Let me try grounding the system some how and see what happens.

    thanks

Did you lock the cpu in place real well....
I have intalled dozens of desktop cpu's.......
I had trouble with this at first..not as much as you...but locking the socket was a bit tricky IMO..
I dought you fried it...did you see or smell magic smoke???
    anything is possible.
bring it to me.. I will tell you for sure!

a motherboard does not have to smell when it dies. A component will only smell if a capacitor blows out. A surface mount transistor is about 0.5mm x 0.75mm, so they are not big enough to see if they are broken. I have the same problem on my Voodoo laptop and I am going to have to check every single component on the motherboard for conductivity and proper voltage drops. I am going to try and fix the motherboard without having to pay Voodoo $350 for the board + $150 for installation and $45 for shipping.

    i) I have already dispatched the system to acer.
ii) I don't know if the TL 66 is still working or not.

Dude... how else do YOU fix electronics exept to test every component..
Ever try to fix a car amplifier????(pretty common method) Did I say it "had to have a smell??) looking for clues...An IC or resistor burning(failing) does not smell??? why only caps??? I was born at night...not last night....A corrupt bios (my guess) will act like this..(do nothing) no one asked him to do the ACER CRISIS procedure others here have talked about...I have not either..
