Basically I am curious if the acer 6920g can support mobile quad core processors, specifically the Q9100. I upgraded it to a T9500 a few months ago but seeing as I use it mostly for editing and graphics work I feel that a quad core processor can help me out a little more as long as the board supports it. My specific model is 6920-6864 and thanks for any help.

Nope, won't work. You have the PM965 chipset and it's not compatible with the newer processors or quad cores.

I actually heard for a Vaio running quad around here. I could be wrong though.

It doesn't matter if a Vaio can do it...if that's the case, it's a Vaio with the newer 45 chipset.

As sgogeta4 says, no quad-core processor will work in your system because it has a 965 chipset, which can only use FSB up to 800MHz. All mobile quad-cores have 1066MHz FSB, and require the 45 chipset.

Do you think the 965 chipset is not able to handle a quad-core just because of the FSB speed of 800Mhz?
Or do you maintain that a 45 like chipset is needed to handle quad-core because of the type of chipset itself?

P.S. I mean, because if we just check on intel website compatibility list, they said the GL960 is only able to handle celeron based cpu at 533Mhz fsb like M540, M550, etc etc. Or, this chip can handle till T9xxx series, 800Mhz Fsb of course.
So where is the limit between commercial arguments and real technicals possibilities...
