    Hi all,

I'm using laptop Acer Aspire 7740G-624G50MN. It's coming with Intel Core i7 620M 2667 Mhz and 4GB DDR3 1066 MHz memory, upgradeable to 8 GB using two soDIMM modules.

My question is if I can use 1333Mhz on this laptop instead of my current 1066Mhz?

Also, is there a big difference between the 1333Mhz and the 1066Mhz? I know that between 4GB and 8GB there's almost no difference. but what about 1333 compared to 1066 Mhz?

I use my laptop for games, running lot's of applications same time - SQL, RDP, MS Outlook, Excel, Word and etc..

    Thanks.

Most likely you can use the 1333 ram and your computer will automatically downclock it to 1066. As far as a speed difference, you'll still be running 1066 so you won't notice a speed difference, but you will have the benefit of the extra RAM (less slowdown when multitasking, more room for RAM caching).

I did exactly what you're thinking about doing a few months ago with my Acer (i5-430m 4GB 1066 RAM) and put 8GB of 1333 RAM in. Downclocked without problems and I'm happy with the upgrade.

    Thanks for the reply.
How I can check for sure, if it will downgrade it or it will use the whole 1333Mhz?
I'm asking because if it will downgrade it, then I will just buy the 1000Mhz then, it's cheaper this way..

Your dual core i7 does not support 1333 RAM natively. There shouldn't be a significant price difference between 1066 and 1333 RAM. Could you list what you were looking to buy?

Err the 2nd link says DDR3 SODIMM but it's picture is DDR2 (different key notch position). If you don't trust buying off Ebay:

    Newegg.com - G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Laptop Memory Model F3-8500CL7D-8GBSQ

Good deal and GSkill RAM is good

Yeah, probably it is a generic pic. I just wanted to know if in my case I should get the 1066 or the 1333Mhz. but I kinda got the answer. Thanks.

Is there a difference in the brand of the memory? are there any special functions I should look for when choosing?

Not really. I recommend Crucial, Corsair, Gskill and Kingston. RAM in all honesty comes from the same places these days, it's up to the company you choose for the warranty.
