Found a very cheap X9100 ES final version, CO revision, so I thought Id take a chance and fit it into my Acer 8930, alot of people advised me against it and said it would be too hot and wouldn't make much difference to my gaming as my old P8600 wouldnt botlleneck my 9700 gt GPU, so I thought id let you know how it went, if other people with ACER 8930 were thinking of doing this....

First off, very easy to install with new Acer, unscrew back, unscrew fan and heatsink, unlock CPU and replace, cleaned heatsink and applied some Arctic 5 thermal paste to CPU, replaced heatsink, fan, cover, job done.
Checked in bios to see if it was showing new CPU, yes everything fine, also CPU-Z showed up fine, ran HW Monitor, temps alittle hot but very stable (same chip as oem really just cheaper), so undervolted it with RM Clock managed to get 11x down to 1.1375v from 1.2125v (x9100), sorted my temps out.
Gaming wise there has been a big improvment, no more lag/delay on crysis, (some med and some high settings), even the old Far Cry there was some delay at times on medium, now its on max settings, all high and water ultra high, looks really nice for an old game and runs like a dream.
Very pleased with how it all went and for me there was no real issues wth fitting the X9100 CPU in my Acer 8930, it has bought my laptop to life, there is a big differece from the P8600 CPU to the X9100, where as people said it was highly unlikely there would be, they were wrong. What a great CPU, would say you do need to undervolt though as my P8600 was 25W and the X9100 is 45W but the Acer 8930 does have a better heatsink than the Acer 8920, undervolting is the key though for this hot CPU they were right about that!

    Congrats on the upgrade.
    You mean down to 1.0125V?
What are the load temps like for the CPU, and what is the version of your BIOS?

And if the laptop is still under warranty, don't sell or lose the P8600. It may come in handy in case you need to send the notebook to Acer for service.

    11x multiplier is 1.1375v
    6 x multiplier is 1.0500v
Not sure what you mean by 1.0125v?
Load temps at max are 67oC

Nothing about the 1.0125. I read the OP wrong -.-
Which BIOS version you've got? You can check in CPU-Z's motherboard section.

Temps are pretty good. (Well, it is an 18"er :p)

Are you able to overclock via multiplier in windows? You can try out CrystalCPUID.

Sorry, my bios version is V 1.06
Dont know if I can over clock but 3.06ghz is enough for me, may try it though to see if it makes a big difference.

One thing I will say that happened after my CPU upgrade is that my tv tuner and media kept coming up with a "digital device cable registration error" in vista, going into the hidden program data/microsoft/drm, and deleting everything in the drm folder sorted the problem out, thanks google for that lol !

    @Angelwings

I don't know if you're still active in the forums. How is you 8930G?

This is a 'hotter' CPU, did you notice throttling down during playing?

With my T9400, after a few minutes playing with good fps, the throttle will go down and the game will start to lag and chop for a few minutes, then it goes back to normal.

Considering this will run a bit hotter, did you modify anything aside from undervolting to prevent / disable throttling?

I belive he would have also applied thermal paste like artic silver 5..also a lot of undervolting.. try applying new thermal paste and undervolt.. it seems to do the job.. and get a notebook cooler.

Sorry its took so long to get back to you, yes even with undervolting I found that after 15min it did seem to lag abit, I bought a NZXT CRYO-LX notebook cooler and have never had a problem since, no more lag, saying that it did lag before i changed the cpu as the graphics card was the one to get hot, great cooler for gamers.

Yeah I applied artic 5 and yes my NZXT CRYO LX notebook cooler is what sorted everything out, its 2010 now and everything is still great, no lag ect, it will lag though at very high settings but thats the graphics card/laptop, but on medium/high its great

Its great now, yes the cpu is abit hotter but it never shut down after undervolting, my fps was an issue due to my 9700m gt graphics card getting hot/gpu, a NZXT CRYO-LX notebook cooler was the way forward, now everything is fine, its 2010 now and its still great, been playing left 4 dead 2 with no problems, the cooler and undervolting is the answer to both cpu and gpu
