Hi im new to the forum, Ive just bought a Acer 8930 with a p8600 cpu 4gb ddr3 ram and gefore 9700gt gpu, I can play crysis on medium which has a slight delay now and again, I am abit strapped from cash, I was looking at buying a x9100 CPU ES QBDW final version off ebay from someone who is a gold seller and 100% feedback it has the same revsion CO as the OEM ones, would this be worth a try and would the cpu be ok.
Secondly would it be easy to fit or would heat be a problem, what about bios, being new should it just be a case of putting new cpu in and its done, i-e no updating, anyone got step by step instructions as im only a girlie and not really very tech, better than some though haha.
Thanks for your help and time

The cpu upgrade will only increase gaming if your cpu is the bottleneck in your system.
Before opening the game, open task manager and leave it running in teh background. Play the game for a little while, and than minimize the game and look at task manager. I the cpu usage is 90% or higher your gaming will increase from a higher clocked processor.
If your games are only using say 50% processing power than the cpu upgrade will not do anything to increase gaming.

Gaming is usually almost completely dependent on the graphics card. The 9700GT you have is a high end card, but it still will not play every kind of game at maximum fps.

My cpu usage in task manager is around 76% to 80% when playing crysis on medium, 86% was the highest it recorded

Its upto you really. If the cost doesn't bother you, upgrade. But better to keep the P8600 with you and reinstall it when sending the notebook in for service (if the notebook is under warranty).

A T9600 or T9800 will be better, and cheaper. Extreme CPUs are mainly for overclocking, which you won't be able to do in an 8930G. You can search in the 8930 Owner's Lounge to see if anyone has tried out a X9100. Anything upto the T9400/P9500 is officially supported.

And, I usually don't help out newbies with step-by-step disassembly :D

I wouldn upgrade to the X9100 because it is going to be very expensive. You already have a 2.4Ghz processor, so upgrading to the T9600 at 2.8Ghz should be a good enough of upgrade. It should be cheaper than the X9100 upgrade.
If you still need more, the T9800 is going to be a better option than the X9100 because it has a lower power consumption, so it will run cooler

It's possible. It's also possible that your power circuitry won't be able to handle the X9100, and you'll just fry your computer. Undervolting can take care of both problems, but I personally wouldn't risk it. I highly, highly doubt that the P8600 is going to bottleneck the 9700GT or that you'll see a significant performance boost with the X9100.

You should do as K-TRON says and get a T9600 or T9800. The X9100 just isn't worth it. You're paying a huge premium for a tiny boost in clock speed and an unlocked multiplier, the latter which you can't use at all.
