I've just bought more RAM and a Q9000 CPU for my 8930G as I've installed Windows 8 64bit and wanted it to run a bit faster.

It picks up the RAM fine(6gb), but it won't boot up with the Q9000. I put the old T6600 back in, updated the bios to version 1.2 but still no joy.

Anything else I can try or is the Q9000 fubar?

    not really.

get a fast dual core CPU instead, one that will be compatible with your chipset.

All the reading up on here suggests that you can run a Q9000 on the 8930G.

    Is this not so?

I just read up some more and it seems only ver4 motherboards will support the Q9000?

    I just had a look and I have a ver1. :(

Alot of _45 series mobos had whitelists for Core 2 Quad's, more than likely your is a whitelist as the TDP is too much compared to conventional Core 2 Duo's offered. Could always be a chance of a defective CPU..

Does anyone have a definitive answer for the compatibility of the Q9000 in the 8930g please?

I need to make a decision on whether to ask for a replacement or a refund.

I thought you JUST answered for sure that your motherboard is V1 and therefore will not work with quad-cores?

Blacklisted. Whitelisted means it can do it, blacklisted means it is prohibited. But I only thought that bioses were never programmed to be compatible with a quad-core, or that the quad cores in some other way exceeded specifications and failed to boot because of drawing too much power at startup or stuff like that.

Well no one has confirmed this, so I don't know whether it's true or not.

    I'm hoping it's the cpu that's duff.
