    Hiya all

I hope I have posted in correct forum, here goes. I have an Acer 9920g laptop with a failed graphics card. It is an Nvidia Geforce 8600m gt graphics card. I have done a little bit of research and found results for reballing, reflowing to baking in the oven. I contacted Acer and they quoted me a price of £250.00 plus tax for a new graphics card. I am very reluctant to fit another Nvidia because of the inherent problems. Can I get another manufacturers card that will do the same job or is the laptop scrap? Any advise would be appreciated.

8600m ouch,we dont see many of them any more. im not sure what will fit in there except for a 8800gtx or9800gt but they are like gold dust and very hard to find. the 9800 was the worst for dying cards after 2 years. mine lasted 2 years 3 months so was lucky to get a 260gtx under warranty which is still going strong today. actually if a 8800 will fit the the 9800 wasa rebadge so a 260gtx may well fit but im no expert.

i would defo try the baking method as its helped hundreds out on here over the last 6 years. if its dead it cant do any more damage and it will keep you going for a while which gives you time to search for a new card.

Hey guys thx for all your input, I did the oven trick and it worked for 2/3 weeks then died again. I may just look for a 2nd hand Acer HD3650, might see me on eh? Any more ideas welcome.

You can get a 3650 from ebay around 80$ And there are some 8600m gt as well. When you buy the 8600 be careful, only the same Acer card will work. (as I remember green pcb) The other ones are 9500m GS cards reflashed with 8600m gt bios. I ran in to the same problem when the vga died in my 9920g.

MXM 2.1 connector (no HE tab option), MXM II space for the card.

    Hi Kirrr

Thx for info, I am not sure whether or not my computer knowledge is really up to this. If it was a straight forward power down, remove battery and remove card then replace with a new card, then rebuild then perhaps, but to have to start flashing the bios etc. then maybe I should just put it down to experience and sell the laptop for spares.
Thanks for all your responses though, they are much appreciated.
    Kind Regards
