I'm not sure if my BIOS will support a different cpu, but I want to try.
Is an i3, i5 or even a i7 a worthy (and compatible) upgrade compared to the P6100? Many of them appear to be within the Thermal Design Power of the P6100. Graphics programs/audio ect.
    Specs for the P6100. 988-pin micro-FCPGA10 (rPGA988A) Socket G1.
    Intel Pentium P6100 processor - CP80617004125AL
Which would give me the best cost/performance and power savings if any?

    Thanks

All standard 35 watt, First gen Intel i processors should work. 45 watt core i processors should work too, but may run too hot for your laptop.

    I'd go for an i5 450m 2.4GHz-2.66GHz Turbo.

It's fairly cheap, at $90: Intel Core i5 450m SLBTZ mobile CPU 2.40 GHz, 3M cache | eBay

You can sell your P6100 for about $25, if you want to put it towards a new processor.

The 450m is about 60% faster than you P6100.

    Passmark:

    450m: 2474
    P6100: 1527

Great find. It's compatible with the Intel HM55 chipset?
Are the Intel HD Graphics feature set the same?

I like your sig, I hope it helps you learn about computers.

I believe the Intel graphics will be somewhat faster on the i5, and faster still on an i7?

I don't think 90$ is such a great deal for that CPU. I got my i7-720qm for 90$ exactly.
However I'm not sure those will work because there is no IGP on the quads.I thought THE JOKER would know that, so maybe I'm wrong.

The i7-720qm won't work since the only graphics the Acer has is CPU integrated.
Not only that, I think it's really pushing my luck the BIOS would support a quad.
The "Huuuh" is only applicable to Notebooks. ;)

Well, I looked at some of the other processor(i5 and i7) and for the performance, I'm pretty sure the 450m is the best deal. Maybe I'm wrong?

Yup, I don't think i7 quads will work because they don't have an integrated GPU.
