Does any one know what the largest ATA hard drive that this laptop can see fully? Currently has 60GB but the drive is failing. Would like to replace it with a larger hard drive if possible.

I've never heard of a computer having a "max hard drive size". You can go with any size you want, as long as it's the same connection type...

Your laptop should have no problem addressing drives greater than 137Gb.
That being said, the largest PATA/IDE/ATA drive you can get is the 250Gb WD2500BEVE.
However, if you want the best performance, it is best to get a Samsung HM160HC. It is the fastest drive for the interface, it is faster than the 250gb drive because of its higher data density, and it is faster than all of the 7200rpm drives which were sold for the interface.
Here is my review of the Samsung HM160HC:

Its a great drive, and it only costs around $65, so it has a great bang for the buck too
I have just shy of 700 hours on mine now, and it is working great.
