I'm working on an Acer Aspire 3690 laptop, and when I try to turn it on, the laptop powers on for a few seconds, then shuts off. I tried removing devices one by one until the laptop stopped shutting off by itself. As long as the processor is removed, the laptop stays running. Does this sound like a bad processor?

Yes, the fan spins. I actually cleaned all the dust out of the laptop in order to make sure it wasn't getting too hot. It just won't stay on long enough to get warm.

    Thanks for your help,
    Casey

The previous owner had taken the whole laptop apart when it stopped working. I don't know their thinking behind it. When I put it back together, I was pretty sure I checked everything, but since I was tired when I did it, I'm going to check again.

I took a closer look at the inside of the laptop, and I found that the processor die was cracked. Guess that would do it, wouldn't it?

Wondering if someone can help me with a similar problem i have my friends laptop acer aspire 3690 when i switch it on the power light lights up and you can hear the hard drive and fan running for about 30/40 secs then it just clicks off alough the fan keeps running ok.
i have checked the memory one by one and also replace it but to no avail i have also taken the fan and cpu out cleaned and checked it and all seems ok.
would be obliged if anyone can suggest what the problem might be.
