Hi, I have a 5003WLMi w/ Turion ML-32 at 1.8G, 512K L1. I can't overclock it (D*MN it!) so would like ot try a CPU upgrade. Yes, I've already maxed the memory. I pulled the back panel and found the CPU and pulled it. No major problems there, but... I can't set clock freq and volt in BIOS, and saw no microDIP switches to set it. I can't believe Acer hard-wired the freq on the board; will the chipset auto-recognize the change to a ML-34 or MK-36? I should be able to go all the way to a 2.2GHz with 1MB L1 Cache, but don't want to drop the $$$ on a fast proc to waste it!![]()
Update: I found a MK-34 on eBay cheap (2.0GHz, 512L1), a step up but not a lot.

Laptop's don't exactly have a lot of extra's like desktops do. No laptop processor that I know of is capable of OCing. All BIOS have the bus speeds hardwired in, and Intel's is (and AMD's are probably) hardwired for a specific multiplier maximum.
As long as the documentation on your processor lists the chip you're interested in as a supported CPU you could be fine. If it doesn't list it it's a crap shoot. -
Nothing is locked, but you can not modify anything from within the bios.So far,I think all the laptop processors are able to overclock more or less. You can modify your bus frequency using clockgen if you know your PLL.If you don't,you can read it on the PLL chip on your mobo.
You can modify multiplier and voltage using crystalcpuid or rmclock, but only decreasing the multiplier, cause higher multis are locked in the cpu.
When you rise the bus speed you have to make sure that your memory can handle it.
I overclocked my dual Turion on Aspire 5102,from 1,6Ghz to 2Ghz and memory works just fine -I increased bus from 200Mhz to 250.
If you plan to replace the CPU,you can find information about what CPU's are supported in the bios package files for you laptop.Bios will recognize new CPU automaticaly and will set new multiplier -bus will remain the same cause is the same family of CPU's. -
You will need a ML or MT series Turions which are based on Skt 754. The MK series Turions are based on Skt S1(638) and so wont work with your system.
