Well i was just wondering if anybody knew what discs it support e.g. DVD-R/+R etc as i have some DVD-R TDK`s and i shall use this to make the recovery discs when i open it up on xmas.

So will the -R discs be ok or will i need some + or -RW etc?

As am un-sure if the drive supports all formats or not

What model of the dvd burner do you have?

To find the model, go to Control Panel, go to System, click on the Hardware tab, click on Device Manager, expand the DVD/CD-Rom drives, then you should see the name of the model.

It's advertised as a slot-loading DVD super-multi drive. It should be +/-, nearly all dvd writer drives are these days. Even my DVD recorder (the TV kind) will take DVD+R discs that the manual says it shouldn't.

I had one for a couple of weeks (returned for compatibility issues with s/w), and the drive worked fine with both DVD-R and +R. However, I think I read somewhere that the system backup only works with DVD+R (which is what I used anyway.

Generally speaking the +R disks are more common and have faster write speeds.

PS I think it took 3 or 4 disks.

Taiyo Yudens are widely considered to be the best blank discs, both CDs and DVDs.
