    Hi all,

I have an acer aspire 8530g with an amd dual core cpu, 4gb of ddr2, 500gb hdd and a radeon 3650 on slot. A friend of mine has a radeon 3870 from an alienware gaming laptop. The video card is on the same mxm2a slot, has almost the same size (its 3cm longer, but i think it fits). Is the radeon 3870 video card compatible with my laptop? Is there an incompatibility issue due the dell bios of the video card? Has anyone tried to use a dell video adapter on an acer machine?

Didn't read through the whole thread, but from what I did see, it didn't seem to address the issue of vBIOS or system BIOS compatibility with regards to the Dell card on OPs Acer. Physically, the card should work - same standard, same pin count. Only concern is the heatsink if the Alienware card is bigger, and the BIOS issue still.

I'm back with some feedback. I watched the status of my laptop using the hwmonitor. It's acting kind of strange. When I'm running the prime95 (64bit) software, the CPU is used at 100% and in the power section seems to be taking ~ 31.5W. I started the MSI Kombustor as well to check the temps status. My 3650 stucked at 75 Celsius Degrees, and the CPU temp changed from 75-76 to flat 60. The power consumption dropped to 15W as well. This could be a reason for low fps in gaming ?

Is there any way to fit a S1G3 CPU in a S1G2 socket ?

They're the same pin count but unless there's a system BIOS update or mod, I don't know that revision 3 CPUs will work in the S1G2 revision socket - although, I've read that they're backwards compatible (just not forwards compatible).
