OK so I have determined a am incapable of carrying large stacks Christmas decorations to the basement without letting the top item fall off the stack, bounce off the table top and head straight into the LCD on my BEAUTIFUL nearly new Acer Aspire 8730-6918....OUCH.
Cracked that sucker right in the middle and that took care of that.
So I find the easiest way to replace my problem is to find the LCD part number on the back of the current LCD screen.
Found the manual online and went through the steps.
Low and behold, I found an unused second HD Drive bay that is vacant.
Has anyone succeeded in adding a second HD to this series?
Please advise.

You may have the HD bay, but do you have the SATA/Power connector and is the connector wired to the motherboard? Also, do you have the HD cage to fit the HD bay?
If you have all that, then all you need to do is install a second HD and enjoy!

The connector is there...
No tray...
Are the trays generic? -

No, definitely not generic.
What I would do before you bought a tray/cage for it is put the HD from the first slot into this drive bay and see if it takes the exact same cage.
Also, if you boot up into the BIOS with the HD in the second bay, see if it 'sees' the HD. If the notebook lets you boot into Windows from the second bay, this will also be enough to verify the wiring is intact in the second bay. But note that it may not boot in that configuration; checking in the BIOS is usually the best 'confirmation' you can get.
Cheers!
