I can recommend Sandisk Extreme III or IV SD cards.

    As to using readyboost? Don't.

Try eBoostr instead - works even better than Win7 SuperFetch in many situations.

Thanks, I'll search out eBoostr now.

By the way, regarding my memory install my Windows Memory Score went from a 3.9 to a 4.9 (going from the stock 1GB DDR3 to the 4GB 1333 DDR3).

That's a nice boost in WEI for your memory upgrade.

Btw, did you have 2x512MB sticks before? Maybe the jump was also partly due to using dual channel mode and not just the capacity increase?

Well, I'm not sure exactly what I took out of the machine, but there's only one slot so it was a single 1GB stick. Actually, if anyone knows the specs of what comes stock in the AO521 let me know as I'd like to sell it and don't have many details to list it on eBay.

Also, I did install eBoostr. I looked at some reviews and according to what I read it actually does function better than READYBOOST.

    Yeah, eBoostr is pretty cool.

As to the spec's on your 1GB RAM module:

Simply download CPU-z, change the sticks around, boot up your system and take screen shots of the RAM info. You should have all the info you need to list it on eBay.

    Good luck.

I did a bit of research before upgrading the ram in my 521 to 4Gigs. However, i could not get enough info on the stock 1GB ram in the 521 until i took it out.
Its made by Elpida (Part# EBJ10UE8BDS0-DJ-F) and other useful info listed on the ram is (1GB 1Rx8 PC3-10600S-9-10-B1).

With these numbers, you can research and find the datasheet here...

    EBJ10UE8BDS0-DJ-F datasheet, Pinout ,application circuits 1GB DDR3 SDRAM SO-DIMM

    Hope this helps!

Now, anyone else hate the touchpad buttons on their 521? There's got to be a mod to dampen these buttons or swap in a new synaptics touchpad which has a better feel. The stock buttons are so loud, clicky and feel cheap!

When i first got my 521, the keyboard had so much "creep" and flexed inwards especially by the cursor keys. I took the keyboard out and placed a folded piece of a macdonald's napkin under it and re-installed the board. Much better now, feels more solid and no more flex. lol :)

After reading all of the messages in this thread, I upgraded the memory to 2GB RAM... Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 1333MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 SODIMM (KVR1333D3S9/2G) and it is working great. It now has 1790 MB of available memory and remaining 258 MB reserved for video memory.

Upgraded to 2 GB instead of 4 GB because I don't plan on upgrading the Windows 7 Starter version which only supports maximum of 2 GB RAM according to Memory Limits for Windows Releases (Windows)

YouTube video was very useful on how to take the Acer apart... YouTube - Acer Aspire One 521 Ram Upgrade and Dissecting

    Thanks.

    hello
    I am writing from Italy

I know that Acer sells different versions of this netbook worldwide.

Which CPU have you got ? The Athlon II Neo (K125) ?
In Italy we should have the AMD V105.

I ask this because, I supposed that maximum ram permitted was 2GB

    Thanks

    @raz98 re: fan noise

    No problem.

One thing I found that helps keep the fan activity to a minimum is to slightly underclock the voltage on your CPU. The stock value is at 1.025 volts, but I have been able to run everything at 0.85 volts (Some have gone even lower). Sometimes I'll also take the CPU multiplier down a few levels. (The default is at 8.5X but I have no problems running things at 4X, even older games like Max Payne and Half Life)

All I use to do this is AMD Overdrive. If you're comfortable with it, you can probably get even more power/heat savings if you do more complex alterations with the memory timings, etc.
