So I bought this Netbook recently for fairly cheap on one of those 24hour sale websites. Not a bad purchase I think considering I only ended up paying $350 AUD for it including shipping. Either way, after receiving it this afternoon in the mail, the first thing I checked out was the expansion slots and to my surprise there was one missing... After discovering this I opened her up to see what the deal was, and as I suspected literally the second Mini PCI-e slot wasn't there.

I am wondering as I have seen pictures of this Netbook with both expansion slots whether it's possible, even worth it to go about tracking down a Mini PCI-e slot and soldering it onto the board myself. I've read threads around the place of people doing similar things, so hopefully I'll be able to do the same.

Any info/advice regarding this would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure, it looks a bit too tall compared to the one in your photo.

Whilst the mini-PCIe slot is connected to the southbridge PCIe links, they might have gone really cheap and deleted the DC blocking caps and perhaps come of the clock-driving/reset circuitry from the BOM. If they have then your job becomes much harder/impossible.

Hey, thanks for your feedback Tim. Is there anything I can check to be sure whether this is a possibility for a mod? I've been pretty busy with work these past few weeks and haven't had much of a chance to look into this further. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am more than happy to open it up again and take a few more snaps of the main board and internals if that will help.

    Hey,

I have to say I'm sorry to see another in the same situations as I. This is indeed very frustrating.

To update you and everyone else unfortunately my search stopped after spending several evenings looking for an appropriate PCI-e slot to solder to the motherboard, the problem is it seems as though they've used some non-standard slot on the main board. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, I couldn't find a part number on the PCI-e slot, all that was written on it was "Foxconn" which means it's a Foxconn special?

I hope others have more luck than I regarding this missing PCI-e slot. At the moment I am working on adding a 4 port USB hub to the inside of the unit. I'll be sure to document my work on that here for anyone who'd be interested.

What device are you planning to use ? if it's a usb device or a wwan module then usb hub / direct cable to wwan module is the answer.
In fact, if you can cut the usb lines on motherboard you don't have to use minipcie lines,
just follow my plan here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=468406 :)

    Cheers!
