I recently scooped up a deal on an Acer Extensa 4420 laptop that I purchased on eBay ($200, I recommend them to everyone).

It has Vista, 160GB hard drive and 2 GB of memory. The computer works like a charm but I have been having difficulties with the headphone jack. Whenever I attempt to plug in either headphones or an auxiliary wire, they are not recognized and the sound does not transfer over to whatever is plugged in.

I would like to plug it up to a pair of external speakers, seeing as how the sound on the computer is not the strongest.

Would this be a problem with my sound card or some complicated Vista software?

My brother purchased the same computer beforehand and has discovered the same problem; therefore I assume that other owners of Acer Extensa 4420s have found this problem and I would like to find the means to solve it.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.
