My Acer 5200 laptop is just one year old but it is causing me a lot problems. I had replaced my hard disk twice due to crash, motherboard once and graphic card once. If I were not covered under the manufacturer's warranty it would have cost me almost the same figure which I've spent buying it. Do you think insuring my laptop would be a smart choice or should I go for a service-plan or any other solutions?? I don't think I need an hardware up-gradation and I can't buy a new one. Your suggestions and opinions will definitely help me out.

if ur having so manu problems , just get a new laptop... cheapest and safest option... insuring ur laptop will make it last longer but do u still want to have all the problems? I would just research and invest in new laptop.. and generally , get a buisness laptop as they're built way better than consumer ones.

While business notebooks are built to a higher quality than consumer notebooks, they're also more expensive with (generally) lower specifications for the price. You do have to pay for the quality, and it sounds like expenses might be tight for the OP. Without knowing the actual specifics of the plans you (the OP) are considering, it's hard for us to tell.

If you had a 3 year /1 year on-site warranty, you should still have 2 years left on the 3 year warranty. I would not put any money into the 5200 for insurance or a plan. Just stay on top of the warranty issues with Acer and save your money for its replacement. Plan on unloading it just before the warranty runs out

@Bronsky Ya!! I would not consider going for a service plan or an Insurance cover if I'm completely covered by the Acer. My warranty will last for another couple of weeks and If I face the same problems again.. I have to shell out the money from my pocket and I don't want that to happen. I'm perplexed.

It's kind of weird that you had 2 HDD, 1 mobo, and 1 GPU replacement.

Was the 2 HDD and the GPU replaced before or after the motherboard?

What I'm trying to get to is maybe the fault was not initially in your motherboard but in your electric circuitry.

If you're unsure about this laptop just sell it and get something different. Like this you'll save your money and you'll have peace of mind :)

If the warranty is running out in a couple of weeks and it is running ok, selling it might be the best idea. :(

That would be the best way.. no point wasting money on a faulty laptop if repairing it doesn't help. You really better off getitng a new one.

Yes, They were right. It's better for you to buy a new laptop but since you said cannot afford it, I would suggest you to go for a service-plan. But think once again, what you gonna do with that bad-luck stuff. Although, I don't know what is the problem behind the damages of hardware components but as @naton said it has got something to do with the electric-circuit, I guess.

With the money you'll get from sell yours, plus the money you need to buy the extended warranty surely you can buy a new laptop.

Ya!! But came across few days ago about In-home-service-plans which is not so costly and can cover it for 2 years. So I am thinking about it. If it doesn't, I might go for a new laptop.

Thank you guys for all your suggestions.. I've made up my mind to go for a service-plan offered by Consumer Priority Service and they suggested me I can cover other Electronic gadgets and appliances with the laptop. It seems they would replace the thing if it's more of a trouble rather than a useful resource. I don't think what I am going to spend is a big amount as it covers others things too..

No Problem.. At last you made up your mind to go for the service-plan, huh? OK.. As long as it covers other electronic products I don't think it's a bad idea either..But I don't think they will readily replace your laptop with the new one. May be in the worst case scenario they could. Good Luck
