Hi, I currently have 512MB PC2700 RAM, Crucial System Scanner Shows:

    http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/viewscanbyid.aspx?id=827254B431D926C3&tabid=&pagename=

Just wondering whether both of these are compatible, and which would be the better buy:

    2 x Kingston ValueRAM 512MB (2x£37.38 = £74.76) to give total 1GB RAM

    1 x Crucial 1GB (1x£83.97) to give total 1.25GB RAM

Yes, either of the two types of RAM you have stated, will do fine. Don't worry about not running two modules in dual channel, as they help very little in general use. The increased bandwidth will generally help applications that rely mainly on memory bandwidth.

So, would 2x512 or 1x1GB be better do you think?

Also, I use PC2700 currently but would PC3200 be better if it is cheaper?

I imagine going to >1GB would give me a substantial performance improvement?

If you use your notebook for standard work, like surfing the Internet and word processing, then either will do fine. Get which is cheaper in that case. If, however, you play games that require alot of RAM, then it will be better to go for the one module of 1 GB density. That way, you can upgrade to 1.5 GB or 2 GB if need be.

Think I will go for the 2x512MB since my 1.6GHz Turion & X700 aren't exactly speed demons!
I am looking to buy a new system in September next year, so this should tide me over till then. Thanks dude, Merry Christmas!
