We changed the CPU from Celeron M 420 to Pentium M.
After initial boot, the system fan stopped and the machine started to heat up very quickly. We powered it down and noticed the small chip being very hot and changed in color slightly. (ref. attached image)
Could anyone help with resolving this issue? We don't have an Acer service center nearby, but we have a couple of others that could help. What should I expect?

Dunno if that chip burning out has anything to do with the CPU upgrade, but Celeron M 420 --> Pentium M is not possible.

A Pentium M is Socket 479 and a Celeron M 420 is Socket M, and both have different electrical pinouts. So, Pentium Ms are not compatible with your notebook. You need to get a Socket M Core Series or Core 2 Series CPU.
