i have Acer laptop with following configuration
Intel core 2 duo
nvidia geforce 8600M gs 256
windows vista
i was having overheating problems and fan was running with huge load like making sound (ghuuuuu...)
i bought a cooling pad it was still having overheating but little controlled
last night i kept it on and in the morning when i turn it on there is big icons and scattered graphics on the screen
how can i check graphic card
how can i overcome that heating issue is that from fan or heatsink problem or bad graphic card
any help is greatly appreciated

Your 8600M is probably part of a known batch of cards with a bad solder job.
Some folks were able to revive them, myself included, doing something similar to this when it reached the final stage of not being able to post:

Yours hasn't reached that stage and hopefully won't but i thought it's best for you to know.
High temperatures can be tamed by a good thermal compound (thermal paste, TIM) application along with cleaning the heatsinks and assuring yourself that the vents are not blocked.
A cooling pad won't help much if the stock cooling system isn't able to keep components at a decent temperature with a moderate use. So it's always a good idea to replace the thermal paste on your GPU die and CPU, clean your fans and heatsinks regularly. -
I would start by getting a canned of compressed air and cleaning out the vents. Im sure it being so old, it has sucked in lots of dust over the years

but the thermal compound for video card i guess is not good now where i can get that
graphics is working now but i guess still overheating problem there

may be it cool down and when i tried after cleaning that i worked for 15 min or so but now it boot up and then blue screen keep coming saying dumping crash memory .................something like that ?
what should i do ...............?
is there any other cheap graphic card i can put in as replacement
any help is greatly appreciated
