Post a picture of the CPU-Z screenshot of the CPU/motherboard specs.

First you've to post a screenshot of CPU-Z before we can give you a good advice. Check below screenshot, we need a screenshot of the CPU part and the mainboard part.

No point in upgrading your CPU as your chipset(910GML) limits the options only to Intel Pentium and Celerons.
You can upgrade your memory up to 2GB and get a small Seagate Momentus XT to speed up your laptop. Don't spend money on a new motherboard.
These are only based on guess work(google), provide more info about your system and others will assist you.

Please could you give me more info into a new motherboard and/or new processor. What are the prices for these two? Can you give me the name of the motherboard and/or processor and any more details?

No the information was there, I needed the chipset information (915GM)

Well it isn't pretty, no dual core support for that chipset, the fastest you could go is a Pentium M 780 @ 2.26 GHz which is about 80 on Ebay. It really won't make much of a difference, plus you probably have to rip apart your laptop to do the upgrade. Invest that in a newer laptop.

There could be a new motherboard that supports dual cores, but it would be from a different model acer and hard to find.

The cost to upgrade will be easily a couple hundred, which makes upgrading a poor choice for your money - you'd get more with a new laptop.
