I'm putting a new harddrive in my XP laptop, and for whatever reason, when using Acronis Migrate Easy, it won't let me resize the Windows section of the C drive to make it bigger on the new drive. It will put all the extra space in "Backup" instead of adding it to the main partition, adding none to the main. The program will let me adjust the "Backup" partition to make it smaller, but that space then becomes "unallocated" and it won't let me add it to the Windows portion. Am I doing something wrong with Migrate Easy, or is there another program that will let me resize the partitions or something, I guess it would be after the transfer? What's causing this problem?

Try Gparted. It's a freeware app that allows you to do a whole slew of stuff as far as partitioning goes. I recently created a new partition so I could dual boot with Vista.

It's pretty simple to use. I can offer you some surface-level advice, but the forums there are helpful as well.

    Good luck!

Well I proceeded to Clone the HDD using Migrate Easy, thinking I would resize the partitions after the swap. Everything went OK, but when it came time for the switch, putting the new HDD in, after the BIOS screen, I got nothing but something similar to "WJDX ATA Error." The part that I'm not sure about is the WJDX. I would have to double check what exactly the letters were. After making sure the thing was connected, reinserting and testing multiple times, I ended up just putting in the old HDD and gave up for the night. Luckily the old HDD booted up just fine.

Anyone know what the problem might be? I switched another one of my laptops a month ago and it went without a hitch. This is driving me absolutely nuts, because the laptop that I'm switching from only has ~200MB of space left on the disk.
