Hello,
I have an Asus G50vt-x2, since the actual hard drive is full and I don't like to carry around my external HDD I would like to add a second HD, the question is, the second drive should be the same capacity and speed as the first one? I saw a 7200RPM 500gb at newegg that would be nice to have.
Thanks!!

It doesn't need to be... but the bigger and quicker... the better!!!

Not unless you wish to use RAID.

Considering he's already hitting the top capacity of the hard drive, you'd need to use RAID0. That doubles your chances of having a failure that would destroy all the data on the discs.
So forget RAID. Get a second hard drive, and get the biggest one you can.
But you are backing up your data somehow, right? -
If it's a portable external hard drive you have and you're feeling adventurous, you could open it up and see if it's a SATA drive and then just transplant it from the enclosure into your notebook. One of the G50vt's bays even supports 12mm drives. I did this with a 500GB SimpleTech HDD. Worked flawlessly without changing any settings--just had to reboot.

Thanks for the reply's, the question was because i read somewhere that having different speed HDD's would make some "don't remember the word" but they would fail with time. I also have an external 1tb Fantom drive that i will use for backing up the data (the one im carring around) so I will use RAID 0, by the way, any suggestions?? like moelda said, the bigger the better1 :>

If you are going to use RAID0, then you will want a drive of equal size. RAID0 is only going to let you double your capacity, not add it all up.

Could you explain what is the difference between the different forms of RAID?

For a very detailed explanation of all the levels of RAID! -
thanks. 10 char.
