I am trying to install my old HDD from my FSC Amilo into the second bay of this Aspire. However having found it won't fit due to a piece of metal attatched to my drive (now bent out of the way) when I try to re secure the backing on the laptop the cover won't screw down or even come close as these are two screw shafts that poke down into the gap which is now filled by my hard drive. These are just pieces of plastic with no screw holes to fill them.
I was wondering if anyone had any other problems with this as I don't really want to break them off and probably void warranty.
Thanks

Lymo,
I have also just found out the hard way that the spare 2.5" HDD bay for the 6530g is too small. I cut the plastic rods off (the cover is strong enough to live without them) only to find the the cover's nice and sleek design does not fit over the HDD when installed. The HDD sits outwith the laptop case by 2-4mm. I have no idea why they did they not include a securing plate for the spare bay. Fair enough if it did not work but it is fully functional.
I have failed in obtaining a suitable technical response from ACER even though I have phoned, e-mailed and used their online technical form. I sent 6 photos depicting the issue. I wanted them to admit it is a design flaw and either provide a solution in the form of a redesigned cover plate or compensate me with the funds to convert my HDD into an external drive bay (£5-10 of e-bay). So far... not so good.
Their phone team are incredibly one dimensional and could not understand the issue. I asked to speak with someone with a technical background but they find it much easier to ignore the problem.
My next move is to write a letter of complaint detailing the correspondance so far but having read some of the customer satisfaction reviews (or lack of) on the net I will not be holding my breath.

Well that makes abosolutely no sense whatsoever. Are you sure it's spec. as a standard laptop HD bay?
Anyway, I'm thinking either a very snug fit or an optional cover.
By the way, did you say the HD was NOT screwed down, as there is no caddy? -
Researched your problem and discovered that there are 2 part numbers for this cover. Not sure which one you would need though.
Check this: http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/manuals/acer/0000/userguides/SG_Aspire_6530_20080822.pdf at page 157.
Good luck.
Edit: It's definitely the first one (42.AVB07.001). Google the part number. -
I'm astounded. It was very random for me to register and post this message but to get a solution is epic. Why the hell couldn't Acer tell me this! Bloody expensive though.
Thanks very much Fintan. Your a star.
